We are pleased to announce that all work will begin next week. The first phase of the project involves the construction of a drinking water supply for schools (with special water filters to remove metals), one of our most important projects.
Are these projects important for the children in these areas?
Yes, very helpful.
Why???
Districts like Ampara, Moneragala, Polonnaruwa, and Anuradhapura, located far from Sri Lanka's capital, are the poorest rural districts with large agricultural areas. Due to the use of fertilizers and oils in agriculture and the acidity of the soil in these areas, the water contains many toxins, including heavy metals. Although it is not advisable to drink this water directly, the people living there have no choice but to drink it because there is no other groundwater source and they cannot obtain water filters to remove heavy metals.
It's regrettable that students at schools in these rural areas also drink this polluted water. Many schools in these areas are underdeveloped, making it difficult for students to even obtain water. Some schools have access to water from wells or community water projects, but this water is consumed without any treatment. There are also no facilities to collect water for other schools. Students at these schools bring water from home to school. Many schoolchildren have fallen victim to various illnesses from drinking this polluted water, including kidney disease, dental disease, eye disease, and kidney stones. Many schools are experiencing various water problems.
Your help with this is greatly appreciated.

School water project
The lack of drinking water in schools is also a major problem and absolutely necessary.
Addressing the problem. Most schools in the rural villages of Ampara district do not have access to drinking water, and Am/Maha/Komana Vidyalaya is a case in point. This school is located in the Padiyathalawa district secretariat. This area is one of many.
The Ampara district office is an underdeveloped area, more than 100 km from the town of Ampara. The district office encompasses a large area of protected forests. The development of public services such as electricity, water, roads, and canals is very limited in this area, and the economic situation of the population is also very poor. Therefore, Am/Maha/Komana Vidyalaya, one of the leading schools in Padiyathalawa with 351 students, also faces numerous problems. For example, students at Komana University suffered from a lack of drinking water. The school does not have a permanent water source, and the temporary water supply is too shallow for drinking. Water is brought in and stored in a tank at the bottom of the school, from which some children draw water, while others bring water from home. There is a small piped system near the school that supplies water to the school. However, this water is bitter. Therefore, the health department has pointed out that these students cannot get drinking water, regardless of how they obtain it. However, the students at that school have no choice but to collect water here as well.
There's no other place to get water. Prolonged use of this water can also lead to various illnesses in students.

Rights of women and children
People living in extreme poverty in such an underdeveloped area have no way to think about anything other than how to survive from day to day. Therefore, it's not uncommon for these people to be exposed to various forms of persecution by those in power and face all sorts of problems due to their ignorance. The main cause of this is their poverty and ignorance of their human rights. Women and children are the most affected. Many factors contribute to this, including:
are among the most important.
A large number of low-income families without a fixed income.
There are many families headed by women (due to widowhood) and the various
economic problems they face.
Children and especially women are not aware of their basic rights.
Getting married at a young age.
